WOMEN TO WATCH

House Republicans were proud to welcome remarkable women from across Illinois to our Women to Watch event in Springfield last week. The program welcomed women leaders to the Capitol for a day of recognition, celebration, and networking. This year’s event included a special panel discussion with House Minority Leader Tony McCombie and Iowa Lieutenant Governor Chris Cournoyer.

I was proud to welcome Katie Garber as my honoree. Katie is an aspiring young leader who currently serves as the Community Development Director for the Village of Metamora. Prior to that, she was the Director of the Metamora Park District. Most notably, Katie has authored multiple grant applications focusing on strategic growth and long-term investment in the community. She also helped found the annual “Shine a Light on Metamora” Christmas event on the Square.

Katie’s community service work includes being a member of the Metamora/Germantown Hills Rotary Club and the Metamora Area Business Association. For several years, she has chaired MABA’s annual “Meet Your Heroes” fundraiser, raising support for the local volunteer fire department. Katie is a proud law enforcement wife and devoted mother, values that deeply enrich her dedication to service and public safety.

Thank you for participating in our Women to Watch event, Katie! And thank you for all you do for the Village of Metamora and our surrounding communities!

SAFE-T ACT FAILURES

In the wake of the murder of Chicago Police Officer John Bartholomew and the wounding of his partner by a repeat violent offender, Cook County State’s Attorney Burke offered sharp criticism of electronic monitoring, which is often used in cases that allow cash-free pre-trial release for violent offenders. State’s Attorney Burke said what we’ve known all along. The electronic monitoring system doesn’t work.

How many more families must suffer before the Governor and Illinois Democrats get serious about amending or repealing the failed SAFE-T Act experiment?

Republican legislative leaders are demanding changes.

ENERGY

Governor Pritzker and Chicago Democrats’ “green energy” policies are failing Illinois families. Thanks to their green energy giveaways, Illinois residents are facing higher prices and a less reliable grid. Democrats need to get serious about ensuring Illinois has dependable baseload power that keeps the lights on and protects grid reliability.

REDISTRICTING

This week, House Democrats’ proposal to further rig Illinois’ maps came to a halt in the Senate. Their plan would have enshrined partisan power in our state’s Constitution and allowed rigged mapmaking to continue. House Republicans will continue fighting for fair maps.
