Rep. Tipsword’s E-Newsletter: July 4th, Tax Hikes, Education, and More

JULY 4/AMERICA 250 WEEKEND

Happy Birthday, America! This weekend, we celebrate 250 years of greatness as we honor the history of our beautiful nation. Let freedom ring from sea to shining sea. Have a fun and safe Independence Day weekend!

NEW STATE BUDGET

Never underestimate Illinois Democrats’ ability to tax anything and everything. This week, the new state budget took effect, and it includes $800 million in new taxes. The latest new taxes and hikes are on fantasy sports, digital advertising, cryptocurrency, and prediction markets. In Illinois, if it exists, Democrats will eventually find a way to tax it.

END OF SESSION CHAOS

Year after year, Illinois Democrats pull the same tired tactics to try to avoid public scrutiny while passing bloated budgets and relentless tax hikes. This spring session was no different. Democrats dropped massive amendments in the final hours of session, leaving no time for public review or debate. This is not the way our government should operate. The people of Illinois deserve a better and more transparent process.

NEW STATE AGENCY

With the state entering a new fiscal year this week, a new state agency is officially taking charge of a wide range of programs for infants, toddlers and their families.

EDUCATION

There could be changes coming soon to the foreign language requirement for Illinois high schools. A new bill that passed this spring would allow students to swap two years of foreign language with courses that match their intended career path.

OUTDOOR HALL OF FAME

Nominations are now open for the Illinois Outdoor Hall of Fame. The awards celebrate individuals whose work has advanced conservation and outdoor recreation across the state.
