Rep. Tipsword’s E-Newsletter: Veto Session, Law Enforcement, Halloween, and More

VETO SESSION

After facing pushback for their ridiculous amusement tax and event surcharge fee proposals to bail out Chicago mass transit, Democrats quietly amended their bill last night. So quietly, in fact, they didn’t even have the language for the amendment when they called the measure in committee.

This legislation passed in the middle of the night, on the final day of the fall veto session, with no time for the public or stakeholders to review the amendment. These shady tactics only further erode public trust in this state government. There was no reason to pass this bailout in the 11th hour except to try to avoid scrutiny. Democrats have once again put politics before people. It’s a disgrace and an insult to all Illinoisans.

HONORING OUR FIRST RESPONDERS

This week, we honored the brave first responders who have answered the call to keep the people of Illinois safe. From police officers, firefighters, EMS, dispatch, and more, these heroes keep their calm in a crisis and often put themselves in harm’s way to help others.

Thank you to all of our first responders for all that you do for our communities.

POPULATION FORECAST

llinois is expected to lose more than a million residents by 2050, based on forecasts from the University of Virginia. That puts us DEAD LAST in the nation for population growth. Illinois has all the resources to be among the fastest-growing states in America, but decades of poor public policy has left residents searching for an exit strategy.

We can change the outlook for the Prairie State by providing much needed tax relief, enacting pro-business policies, and building safer communities for all.  Mapped: America’s Fastest-Growing States (2025-2050P)

LAW ENFORCEMENT

The FBI Springfield Office, in collaboration with our federal and state partners, have announced the arrest of Derek Lopez, 27, of El Paso for making threats against President Donald Trump within the Central District of Illinois.

From FBI Director Kash Patel: “The threats against President Trump allegedly posted by this individual are heinous and have no place in American society,” he told Fox News Digital. “Let this be a message to all who consider threats of violence not just against public officials, but any American, that this FBI will find you and bring you to justice. I want to thank our local partners, the El Paso PD in Illinois, as well as USSS who assisted us with this case.”
