Rep. Tipsword’s Weekly E-Newsletter: Law Enforcement, SAFE-T Act, Immigration, and More

LAW ENFORCEMENT

The Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and more than 200 law enforcement agencies throughout the state are participating in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s high-visibility “Click It or Ticket” campaign to stop seat belt law violators and impaired drivers during Memorial Day weekend.

During the campaign, law enforcement will step up efforts to ticket unbelted motorists and arrest drivers impaired by alcohol, drugs, or other substances.  IDOT, ISP: Buckle up and drive sober. It could save your life during Memorial Day holiday travel

Please keep the police officers injured in Fairview Heights last weekend in your prayers as they recover from this heinous attack. Bless the brave first responders who put themselves in harm’s way to keep our communities safe.  3 Fairview Heights officers shot Saturday night | ksdk.com

Earlier this week, I spoke on the House Floor and pointed out another example of the dangers and failures of Democrats’ SAFE-T Act. It’s time to repeal this awful legislation.  Rep. Tipsword: Democrats’ SAFE-T Act Endangers Public Safety and Fails Illinois Families

WELCOME TO SPRINGFIELD

Thank you to the St. Mary’s Pontiac 7th & 8th grade students who visited me at the Capitol in Springfield this week! What a great group of young leaders!

AROUND THE DISTRICT

Congratulations to Jodi Martin, Executive Director, and the Livingston County Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors on the opening of their new facility in Fairbury! A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held this morning. Thank you for all you do to support kids and families in the 105th House District!

HUNTING

Illinois turkey hunters had a record-breaking spring season, with more than 18,000 birds harvested.  Illinois Spring Turkey Hunters Harvest Record Number Of Wild Turkeys | RiverBender.com

IMMIGRATION

Under the Pritzker administration, more than $3 billion has been spent on services for migrants and illegal immigrants. Meanwhile, services for our must vulnerable citizens remain chronically underfunded and underserved. Democrats’ sanctuary state policies have cost Illinois taxpayers billions and made our communities less safe.

House Republicans continue to fight for immigration reform and a state budget that prioritizes the needs of Illinois working families and seniors over illegal immigrants.

MEMORIAL DAY

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend, it’s a day of remembrance for those who gave their lives in service to the United States. Their sacrifice paved the way for the freedoms we enjoy. Let us honor them with respect, reflection, and gratitude.
