EDUCATION

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our Homeschool families and those who continue to descend upon the State Capitol and have filed hundreds of thousands of witness slips online! I enjoyed meeting with homeschool leaders this week in District 105. We hear you loud and clear, and we will continue to fight for your freedom.

While the Homeschool Act was not called for a vote last week, the fight is not over. We must remain diligent in the days and weeks ahead.

BAD LEGISLATION DEFEATED

Last week, the House Democrats failed to garner the 60 votes necessary to pass a bill that would grant convicted murderers and rapists under the age of 21 the possibility of parole and resentencing after House Republicans pointed out the obvious flaws in the legislation.

IHSA RESPONSE

After nearly a month, the IHSA has finally responded to House Republicans’ letter requesting how they plan to amend their policy to comply with the President’s order protecting women and girls from having to compete against biological males in sports.

The IHSA’s response is baffling and wrong. Fairness and safety in sports should not be a political issue and should not be up for debate. Policies protecting same-sex sports and locker rooms must align with federal policy to ensure the integrity of competition and the well-being of student-athletes.

House Republicans will continue to fight to protect the integrity and safety of all female athletes in Illinois and demand the IHSA take action.

ECONOMY

The ALEC-Laffer competitiveness index released Tuesday ranks Illinois 46th out of 50 in economic outlook for 2025 and 47th out of 50 in economic performance over the past 10 years. Illinois has a wealth of resources, including skilled workers, that should position us to be an economic powerhouse, but poor public policy pushed by majority party Democrats continues to hold our state back from reaching its potential.
