Rep. Tipsword Reacts to State Budget Address

State Representative Dennis Tipsword (R-Metamora) has issued a statement following today’s Budget and State of the State Address delivered by Governor Pritzker:

“Once again, Governor Pritzker has proposed the largest budget in Illinois history, nearly $2 billion more than last year,” Rep. Tipsword stated. “The proposed ‘balanced budget’ includes revenue estimates based on very aggressive data, and involves new taxes, transfers, and other gimmicks. The next report from the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability (CGFA) in March will shed light on the actual figures, and Illinoisans could be faced once again with tax hikes and other bad policies to make up the difference as a very large budget deficit looms.”

“Instead of focusing on bringing costs down for hard-working Illinois families, the Governor chose name-calling and fearmongering in his speech,” Rep. Tipsword continued. “And no amount of blaming President Trump can erase the bad decisions Illinois Democrats have made under this Governor’s leadership. House Republicans will continue to advocate for economic growth through sound policies, reducing costs, and opposing any tax increases.”
