Rep. Tipsword’s Weekly E-Newsletter: Leadership Program, Around the District, and More

Legislative Leadership Program

I was privileged to be chosen to attend the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Fellows Program. I recently returned home from this wonderful program, which was held in Madison, Wisconsin.

I met with legislative colleagues from 11 Midwestern states who provided insightful strategies in their approach to governing. That was definitely the highlight of my studies this past week. Illinois – Let’s get to work!

Around the District

Earlier this week a groundbreaking ceremony was held for The Boys & Girls Club of Livingston County’s brand-new Intergenerational Center in Fairbury. This incredible facility will serve as a hub for connecting generations and provide a safe, enriching space for our youth and seniors to come together.

District law enforcement leaders gathered earlier this week to talk about common issues and concerns. Sheriffs, police chiefs, and state’s attorneys joined in on the conversations around the Safe-T Act, pensions, human trafficking, staffing, Fall Veto Session, and more. Great information was shared from the Sheriff’s Association, State Police, and the Chiefs of Police. Thanks to Sen. Tom Bennett for hosting!

Licensing Update

As a member of the Healthcare Licensing Committee, this is an important step forward in streamlining the licensing process with the State.

Voter Choice Wins

Earlier this year, Illinois Democrats tried to change the rules about placing candidates on the ballot in the middle of an election cycle. A judge said they can’t do that, and the Illinois Supreme Court dropped the state’s appeal. Now voters will have more choices November 5.

Economic Outlook

Despite Gov. Pritzker and Illinois Democrats’ claims that their policies have improved the state’s economy, data and simple facts put a damper on that spin. The reality is that until we get serious about tackling overregulation and high taxes that are driving jobs and families out of Illinois, we will continue to lag behind other states.

Corruption

Chicago’s reputation as the center of corruption is well-earned. A recent editorial in the Chicago Tribune outlines this dark reality and reminds us that we must continue pushing for transparency, accountability, and positive change.
