Tipsword: Current Safe-T-Act Provisions Responsible for Release of Man Charged with Reckless Homicide in Deputy’s Death

Rep. Dennis Tipsword today made the following statement on the pretrial release of a subject charged with reckless homicide and DUI in the death of Dekalb County Sheriff’s Deputy Christina Musil. Tipsword, who is also a 30-year law enforcement officer, said the man arrested was released under provisions of the current so-called “Safe-T-Act”.

“An officer is dead. She will never return to her family. Their lives have ALL been shattered; because Illinois law currently dictates disastrous release without bail policies, the person charged in her death is already back out on the street!” Rep. Tipsword said. “When will enough be enough? When will the majority party members in the General Assembly and Governor Pritzker recognize the danger they have created for families across our state? When will they work with us to hold offenders accountable for their actions…to make crime illegal again in Illinois?”
